Laocta AI Labs exists because we didn't want to keep waiting for the next wave of AI to arrive, translated and delayed, from somewhere else.
Built in Nairobi because the hardest operating conditions produce the strongest systems.
Every major AI lab was built somewhere with cheap capital, dense research talent, and a decade's head start. Nairobi has none of those things — and all of the problems AI is actually good at solving.
Unreliable power. Fragmented connectivity. Financial systems built on mobile money instead of cards. Manufacturing lines that can't afford downtime. Security operations that can't afford a cloud outage. These aren't edge cases to design around — they're the default operating conditions for most of the world, and we built our lab to treat them that way from day one.
Laocta started as a small applied-research group asking a narrow question: could production-grade AI systems be built and run reliably on Nairobi's actual infrastructure, not the infrastructure assumed by most AI tooling. Six years on, that question has become five verticals and three shipped products.
Laocta AI Labs opens as a small applied-research group, working on early computer-vision and forecasting pilots for local manufacturing and logistics operators.
An anomaly-detection system for a manufacturing line goes live and stays live — the first proof that research work could survive contact with a real factory floor.
Boondi starts life as an internal monitoring tool for our own field hardware — designed around unreliable power and limited bandwidth from day one. That field-hardened origin is what grew into today's space-intelligence platform: awareness of the space itself, without tracking the people inside it.
Work begins on Syftics after repeatedly rebuilding the same financial-analytics logic for clients working with mobile-money data that generic BI tools couldn't parse.
Engagements extend to partners in North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania, each adapting a Nairobi-built system to a new regulatory and infrastructure context.
Laocta operates across finance, healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, and security, with three research threads now running as standalone products.
We hire slowly and stay small on purpose. Every engagement is led by someone who can go from research notebook to production incident call in the same afternoon.
